Bloom Progress Today

Currently it’s a cool early spring day here in central Maryland, and the sky is overcast as well — which makes the chill seem more penetrating. But the overcast conditions are good for at least one thing… taking photos of the flowers in our side yard. The blooms have really taken off like a shot this week, and will hit peak condition soon.

Snowdrops Are Blooming

Snowdrops (Galanthus) — Germantown, Maryland

Spring is definitely upon us… we’ve gone from days where the high is 30°F, to days where the high is over 70°F in less than a week. The buds are emerging on the nearby maple trees, green shoots are already well established for the daffodils, and the snowdrops — some of our earliest bloomers — are in full cry.

This is my favorite season of the year, the time when new plant growth has a fresh and wonderful yellow-green pop to it, and we’re surrounded by colors that appear super-saturated.
