Sunlit Cherry Blossoms

Sunlit cherry blossoms – Washington, DC

This image always reminds me of sweltering hot summers in Washington, DC, even though it was shot during the bracing spring days of mid-April. It just has that color and atmosphere to it that evokes heat in a big way. As I recall, this image was actually taken in temperatures around the mid-30s, on a still morning that just felt utterly frigid.

Rural Sunrise

Rural sunrise – Poolesville, Maryland

One of my many plein air watercolor paintings, this is one of the surrounding crop fields that we have here where we live – done in the spring when the colors are intense and vibrant.

Sunrise on the Water

Back when we owned a sailboat – an old used sailboat, mind you – we docked it down at the tip of southern Maryland, in a quiet backwater of the Potomac River. It was secluded, filled with clear water, had lots of older trees and growth, was home to a plethora of land and aquatic creatures – and had some of the best sunrises and sunsets in the region.
