Statically Fierce

Blue Angel display – Annapolis, Maryland

Every autumn – usually in the second week of October – Annapolis hosts the annual US Sailboat Show, and thousands of attendees and exhibitors arrive from around the world. However, downtown Annapolis is so cramped for space that organizers use the nearby Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium for overflow parking, which is where this static display of a US Navy Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet is placed for all to see.

I wanted to show the difference between the RAW image straight out of the camera (below), and what can be achieved with careful post-processing (above).

Here Comes the Sun

Sunflowers (Helianthus) at McKee Beshers – Poolesville, Maryland

Every year the caretakers at the nearby McKee Beshers Wildlife Management Area plant several designated fields with sunflowers to feed mourning doves, other songbirds, mammals, and pollinators. And every year I seek them out to take some photos, occasionally do some plein air watercolor paintings, and just enjoy the spectacular displays of the gorgeous blooms.
