  1. We have plenty of abandoned farms on the eastern plains. Either a family quit the land or were foreclosed on and everything sold at auction. The expectation is more foreclosures are on the way resulting from the pandemic economic fallout. Many were selling direct to restaurants, and with many restaurants not coming back, there is no income.

    1. We’ve been following some of these farmers and ranchers on social media for years, and have been wondering how long some of them can hold out, since it has become obvious to us that they are running out of options to keep the business afloat.

      We’ve been seeing posts in southwestern Montana that hay has reached $400 per ton in some places, and the only people that can afford it are the well-heeled that buy it for their non-working horses.
